Prime

My birthday was a success!  People from all my walks of life (diving, dancing, & theatre) showed up for the BBQ.  I was really excited that they all got to meet each other finally.  For the first time in my adult life, I had a sense of life-accomplishment.  Like, I was living the montage in a movie when a character's life apexes.  It was fleeting, and it felt great.

I think the greatest part of the my party was the diversity of the group.  Not just racial diversity, but age, education, nationality, NYC/NJ zip codes, and especially interests.  Everyone was unique.  Well, everyone's unique in my eyes, but I had a special bond with each person there.

My ex-bf wrote in his RSVP, "Congratulations, you're one year closer to death!"  I laughed.  Now that I embarque further into my 30's, I begin to see and feel the shadows of age approaching.  However, to say, "Happy Birthday Croft, you're 31!" seemed inauthentic.  I wasn't an age, I was having my montage!

31 happens to be a prime number, and for that reason, when people asked me how old I was turning, I chose to say, "I'm turning Prime."  Prime is a ubiquitous little word, with absolutely marvelous applications.  It's equally at ease with math, law, and banking, as it is with the butchers, motors, and seasons.  That kind of sums me up pretty well...

At times, I feel like I am in the prime of my life.  Or am I more like a primed engine because I'm just getting started?  Prime numbers cannot be divided, except by themselves and 1.  My friends are the most important, the most valuable, the choicest selection of people.  For me, they are indivisible and I was so happy to see them.  While the number 1 itself is not a prime number, this one felt that way on his birthday.
